CVS-100 Introduction to Cardiovascular Imaging (Fall 2024)
Course Description:
This course is an introduction to anatomy of the cardiovascular system and cardiovascular imaging. It focuses on real time 2-D imaging of the heart, lower extremity veins, extracerebral arteries and the abdominal aorta.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
· Identify anatomy and relational structures of the heart and vascular system.
· Describe blood flow through the cardiovascular system
· Explain basic cardiac hemodynamic
· Describe the technique and imaging planes for performing a transthoracic echocardiogram
· Identify cardiac anatomy on a transthoracic echocardiogram
· Explain the sonographic differences between the arterial and venous system.
· Describe the anatomy and sonographic of the lower extremities venous system
· Explain the technique and appearance to identify deep venous thrombosis of the lower extremities
· Discuss the anatomy and sonographic appearance of the normal carotid arteries
· Describe the sonographic appearance and technique used to evaluate the abdominal aorta
· Recognize abdominal aortic aneurysm sonographically.
